The Vermont Yankee reactor must be closed and decommissioned. What will you do to make this happen? June 25 in Wendell, MA, starting at 1:00 on the common and in town hall, we will gather to have fun: music, poetry, a potluck. And discussions (beginning around 2:30-3), using the affinity group/spokes structure.
Our goal is ongoing actions/events for the next 3 months. Focus: closing Vermont Yankee, supporting the court cases against Entergy, and keeping in the media the idea that Nuclear Power is not an option in solving our country’s need for energy. We will gather again in October to assess our next moves to assure the closing of the plant.

Ask Japan’s government to allow independent radiation monitoring.
The Japanese Government is blocking us from carrying out crucial
radiation monitoring within the country’s 12 mile territorial waters.
Tell Japan’s Prime Minister that independent monitoring of radioactive
ocean pollution is in everyone’s best interest. You can help -
Tweet a message to Japan’s Prime Minister by clicking
one of these twitter buttons:
Dear sir, please allow Greenpeace to conduct its crucial marine radiation
testing inside Japan’s 12 mile zone @JPN_PMO #rw-japan
Greenpeace’s marine radiation research is vital to protect lives and
livelihoods, and is needed now. @JPN_PMO #rw-japan Dear @JPN_PMO please
let Greenpeace conduct its crucial marine radiation monitoring #rw-japan

On the eve of the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster – and six weeks after the devastating nuclear disaster in Japan – nine Nobel Peace Laureates are calling upon world leaders to invest in safer forms of renewable energy. The six women Peace Laureates of the Nobel Women’s Initiative, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Adolfo Perez Esquivel, and Jose Ramos Horta have sent an open letter to 31 heads of state whose countries are currently heavily invested in nuclear power production, or are considering investing in nuclear power. http://www.nobelwomensinitiative.org/media-room/article/no-to-nuclear-power

VT bill asserts illegality of VY re-licensing
Posted (Tom Wyatt) on 24-04-2011

Vermont legislators from Windham County will hold a press conference on Tuesday April 26 at 1pm in the Cedar Creek Room of the Statehouse in Montpelier. Details will be released of a bill drafted by Rep. Dick Marek of Newfane. in response to Louisiana Entergy’s obvious intention to keep VY running past the expiration rate of it’s licenses- and absent a Certificate of Public Good and approval from the Vermont legislature. The gist of the bill will assert that VY is acting illegally to continue operations. As with all illegal activity, revenue derived from illegal activity is subject to capture by the state. Any business supporting illegal operations, such as supplies, are also subject to such financial sanctions.
